Julia Pürstl

I study toughness in ceramics with a layered crystal structure for potential use as high temperature structural components in jet engines. The eventual goal is to establish a relationship between crystal structure and toughness that can be used to design novel high temperature materials. To achieve this, I carry out micromechanical tests at different temperatures in a variety of components, aiming to determine their fundamental deformation behaviour.
