Nickel-base superalloys
The optimisation of the composition and microstructure of nickel-base superalloys is a crucial component to their ongoing use in the hot sections of gas turbine engines. However, the complexity of investigating multiple variables consisting of inter-related factors is considerable. The investigation of simpler alloys along with model alloy systems to assess the effect of alloying elements and variation in the microstructure is therefore critical to furthering the understanding of nickel-base superalloy behaviour and the development of new, improved, nickel-base superalloys.
